The Course in Management of Licensed Premises 52473WA - MLP1

19 September 2012

Supersedes the Course in Liquor Licenisng 52065 - Effective 01 September 2012

Section 100 of the Liquor Control Act 1988 (The Act) requires that an approved manager must, unless the Director of Liquor Licensing determines otherwise, be present on the licensed premises at any time that the business is conducted at those premises.

Section 102B of the Act states that the Director may approve a person as an Approved Restricted Manager or an Approved Unrestricted Manager for a period of 5 years

The type of approval will depend on the level of training that an individual has undertaken.

The two approval types are:

UNRESTRICTED MANAGER’S APPROVAL

required for managers at commercial licence types such as taverns, liquor stores, special facility licences etc. An applicant for a unrestricted manager approval must successfully complete the Course in Management of Licensed Premises 52473WA in order to obtain this approval; and

RESTRICTED MANAGER’S APPROVAL

required for managers at club and club restricted licences. An applicant for a restricted manager approval must have successfully completed the nationally accredited Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course (as a minimum) to obtain this approval.

Mandatory Knowledge requirements

The training requirements for Approved Managers are:

UNRESTRICTED MANAGER APPROVAL - applicants must successfully complete the Course in Management of Licensed Premises (52473WA)

RESTRICTED MANAGER APPROVAL - applicants must successfully complete the nationally accredited Provide responsible service of alcohol (SITHFAB009A) course.

An application for a Restricted Manager Approval must be accompanied by evidence that the applicant has successfully completed the Nationally Accredited unit in the Responsible Service of Alcohol. As detailed above, this will only entitle the manager to employment at either a Club or Club Restricted licence or an Occasional liquor licence.

An application for a Unrestricted Manager Approval must be accompanied by evidence that the applicant has successfully completed the Course in Management of Licensed Premises 52473WA. This approval will entitle the manager to employment at any licensed premises in Western Australia.

If a Restricted Manager subsequently completes the Course in Management of Licensed Premises 52473WA, they may apply to upgrade to a Unrestricted Manager Approval.
