Anzac Day trading hours and promotions - QLD

5 April 2016

Anzac Day is one of the busiest days of the year for RSL and services clubs. On 25 April the sale and supply of liquor in licensed premises is not permitted until 1pm. There are exceptions to this rule, as follows:

RSL and services clubs

RSL and services clubs can sell and supply liquor from 5am without the need to apply for a permit if they are specifically catering for Anzac Day services or functions.

Other liquor licensees

Other licensees may apply for an extended hours permit to trade from 5am–1pm on Anzac Day, only if the licensee has entered into a written agreement with an RSL or services club to sell liquor at an Anzac Day event being held on behalf of the club. The need to serve meals is removed if this agreement is in place.

All liquor licensees providing alcohol with meal

Licensees are permitted to sell and supply liquor from 10am–1pm in conjunction with a meal in a part of the premises that is ordinarily set aside for dining, if the meal is also prepared, served and intended to be eaten on the premises. Patrons can purchase alcohol for 1 hour before eating their meal, while they are eating their meal, and for 1 hour after finishing their meal.

Anzac Day promotions

Many licensees conduct promotions for Anzac Day. If you conduct a promotion, ensure liquor is served, supplied and promoted in a way that minimises harm and preserves the amenity of an area.

Gaming on Anzac Day

No gaming is permitted between midnight and 1pm on 25 April. After 1pm normal trading hours will apply.
